Hosting two wine writers (December, 2021)
Back to all news
This month we hosted two big names of the wine journalism world: SHAWN ZYLBERBERG, assistant editor of one of the most prestigious and influential international wine magazines, Wine Spectator. And the British writer AMANDA BARNES, whose first published book, South America Wine Guide, is now considered one of the most relevant, comprehensive and authoritative wine book edition on the South American wine regions abroad, exploring in detail and with profound knowledge the history and geography of each region.

- Shawn Zylberberg contacted us because he wanted to meet Karim and taste his wines, after hearing his name mentioned repeatedly in various wine circles. Born in the US, but with Argentinean roots as his parents are from Buenos Aires, but emigrated to North America before he was born (with a rich history under their belt), Shawn showed great interest in learning more about the history and geography of Argentinean wine, as well as the behind-the-scenes processes behind the winemaking.

We met with a very enthusiastic and knowledgeable young man, eager to know more about the new projects that have been emerging in recent years and about the changes in the philosophy of many of the local winemakers, committed to represent and express in a more authentic way the different regions and terroirs, as is our case.

WINES TASTED: Altocedro Año Cero Malbec, Altocedro Colección Barrica Año Cero (Pinot Noir and Rosé), Altocedro Reserva, (La Consulta Select and Reserva Malbec), Altocedro Gran Reserva Malbec and Abras Camino Real.

- Amanda Barnes is a British journalist and writer whose wine journey began in Mendoza, where she came for an editorial internship and where she took her first steps into the world of wine and gastronomy. Then came her travels through different regions in South America, visiting every corner, meeting and interviewing the people behind each wine, sharing her "findings" to an international audience through journalistic work for prestigious international magazines and so on.

She has known Karim for several years, as well as many of our wines. On this visit she wanted to update some of her wine notes, as well as to get to know further about some of those she hadn't had the opportunity to taste before. At the same time, took the opportunity to interview Karim, for future re-editions of her famous https://southamericawineguide.com/, where some of our wines have been chosen as one of her favourites and KM as a benchmark producer in La Consulta, Valle de Uco.

WINES TASTED: Abras Torrontés, Colección Barrica Año Cero (Pinot Noir & Rosé), Altocedro Año Cero Tempranillo, Alandes Concrete Tank, Abras Malbec, Altocedro Reserva, Altocedro Finca Los Galos Petit Verdot and Alandes Uco Valley Malbec.
